Rock Island Bridge

Location - Over the Kansas River in W Bottoms. Next to Hy-Vee Arena (Kemper) Kansas City, KS

While boating along the Kansas River, Mike Zeller and his friends spotted the sturdy yet abandoned Rock Island Railroad Bridge, sparking an idea. What began as a casual remark – "Someone ought to do something with that—put a restaurant out there and call it Chicken on a Bridge" – is now evolving into reality. Collaborating with friends and business partners, Zeller is transforming the Rock Island Bridge into America's inaugural entertainment district over a river. Spanning 40 feet above the Kansas River, linking the two Kansas Cities, this historic bridge becomes a unique blend of the past and future. With roots entrenched in our city's history for over a century, the newly envisioned Kansas waterfront entertainment district, aptly named the Rock Island Bridge, stands as the latest icon in the metro.

Anticipate a dynamic urban space featuring live music, dining establishments, coffee shops, bars, and scenic paths for biking and hiking. Visitors can stroll or cycle along the trail leading to the bridge, seamlessly crossing state lines. The bridge is set to unveil its vibrant offerings in the summer of 2024, marking a new era of entertainment and connectivity.
